It Is Official...Hell Has Frozen Over!

Snow in the Houston area! Who would have thunk it?
I miss seasons. I am a native Texan, but I am a West Texan...where we have all four seasons. In the Houston area, we have Summer...all year long. I was so excited last night as the snow flakes began to fall! Big, fluffy white flakes danced to the ground. It has been twelve years since I last saw real snow. A couple of years ago, we came out of midnight Christmas Eve services and we saw a few snow flakes...we were frantically looking for the fake snow machine that we were convinced the church must have rented. But it was real! It seemed a miracle on that Christmas Eve...to have the luxury of witnessing a couple of flakes of snow. Those few flakes put the entire family in a festive mood hoping for a white Christmas. A few magical flakes...and then it was over.
But last night the snow began in a sprinkling of tiny balls of ice which developed into beautiful lacey flakes. It didn't sputter and stop. The snowfall continued for hour upon wonderful hour. I couldn't make myself stay in the house. I attached the leash to Sweetie's pink collar... a 125 pound pure white Great Pyrenese...and we disappeared into the white landscape. I had forgotten how quiet the surroundings become when it snows. There were no barkings from other dogs. There were no cars moving. I couldn't even hear the sound of the lake washing against the shore. All I could hear was the silence of the snow interrupted only the the sound of Sweetie's paws crunching on the powdered snow. We could have walked like that forever.

It is magical, isn't it. I know we seem silly, but we just don't get to see it very often and certainly not at this time of the year. That last shot is fantastic. It could be a car ad. The snow looks like stars in the sky. Just beautiful! See, I can wax poetic sometimes. Debbie
