"You Can Be Whoever You Want To Be!"

I talked to my 5 year old granddaughter tonight. Madisyn is in kindergarten. I asked what she learned in school today. Remember that Madisyn understands the importance we place on education since both her Grammy and her Grande are long-time educators. Madisyn's few words just summed up my feelings about the last two days!
Me: What did you learn in school today, Madisyn?
Madisyn: We have a new President...and his name is Obama...and we got to watch a movie about him!
Me: Did you get to watch the inauguration on tv?
Madisyn: Yeah, it was cool!
Me: Good, baby! Did you celebrate a birthday yesterday? Did your teacher tell you who had a birthday yesterday?
Madisyn: Martin Luther King Jr!
Me: What did you learn about Martin Luther King Jr?
Madisyn: Well, a long, long time ago...way back in the sixties...(yes, she did say that!)...there was this guy named Martin Luther King Jr...and back then, the blacks had to stay with the blacks...and the whites had to stay with the whites...and Martin Luther King Jr. came along and made this deal with some people...and now, blacks can be with whites...and whites can be with blacks...and everybody can be with everybody!
Me: So what do the last two day mean to you, Madisyn?
Madisyn: It means you can be whoever you want to be!
Out of the mouth of babes. I couldn't have said it better, baby!

Go Madisyn! This little girl hopefully will be like all of our grandkids, and little kids. They ARE the ones that will change the future, and she is so right, "you CAN be whoever you want to be". Thanks Malisa for the awesome post. That little girl is a sweetheart! Take care, Sue

Hey girls...I'm sorry I hope I didn't offend with the "racy" comment! Not everybody is old enough to even know what that means! LOL Your creativity really blew me away! Hope to meet you guys someday soon! Sorry also for "stealing" your shoes! But if yall had won someone would have been without or you would have each gotten one! May you win the big prize next time!
Bless Yall

Great post. The song from South Pacific kept playing through my head while I was reading this. Obviously Madisyn has been carefully taught the right lessons. Bravo for y'all! Also, I want to say thank you for the terrific post you did on the canned ham. It was smart, clever and way over the top!!! It was also generous, loving(in a fun way) and fun, fun, fun! Y'all are the best and I can't wait to meet you. Look for me at Warrenton. I'll be the one wearing the big grin. Tn'T

What I said was,
I wish everyone was as smart as your five year old granddaughter!

She is a delightfully precocious young (very)
