Patiently Waiting

Today is Day Ten of
Thirty Days of Photography II.

Today's photo topic:  WAITING

I'm waiting at the mailbox.

It used to be fun to wait for the check. Whether it was a payroll check or refund check or the check you got from your great aunt on your birthday, it was fun waiting on the check. The day it appeared in your mailbox was pure magic!

I'm still waiting at the mailbox.

Although direct deposit has taken all of the fun out of the anticipated check, I still have hope.

I wait for the check from the IRS with a letter telling me that they have made a mistake and they owe me $150,000 instead of the other way around.

I wait for the check from Reader's Digest Clearing House along with congratulations on being America's newest millionaire.

I wait for the check from the State of Texas along with the explanation that I have a long-lost, totally unknown uncle who left me his entire fortune along with his ranch that occupies most of Far West Texas.

I wait for the birthday check from the great aunt who has long since been deceased.

I wait.

I camp out at the mailbox and wait with hope and determination and dream outlandish dreams of what I will do with the money once I have cashed that check.

I wait. I am patient. All I have left is the hope and the dreams and the mailbox.

Want to see what my photo buddies are waiting for?

That's a great pic. I don't wait at the mailbox. I'm in no hurry to get the bills that are in there.

I remember my father always waiting for the mailman to come up. It's like he spent a good portion of his life anticipating the mail. One check a month and he still loved waiting for the mailman. :)

Oh, I love it! I wish I had a form of hope when I opened the mailbox.
I am always filled with dread.

Maybe I will start looking for a windfall, instead of only focusing on the bills.

What's going to happen without the postal service? There's just not the same sense of anticipation in waiting for an e-mail.

I love this concept. There's nothing more thrilling than dashing to the mailbox for an expected delivery. These days, I wait on Amazon orders!

I love this idea and photo! It makes me think of the days when I would await a love letter from my husband (then boyfriend) in the mail. Now I get text messages - not nearly as heart-skipping.

Love the colors in this one. I'm with Noname: I'm in no rush to find the bills lurking in there :)

Ugh, my "mailbox" is a hole in the apartment door, and since we don't do checks in Finland, the only thing that every comes through that hole is bills.. But the photo is great. ;)

I love the photo, Malisa. I too always look forward to getting the mail. Yeah, it's usually just bills but sometimes there's a surprise in the box. Then I do the happy dance!

IRS sounds so much cooler than the HMRC...I WISH we had an IRS...

Brilliant photo, not that we have mailboxes, so it's hardly like I understand, unless I recall what I've seen on the movies.

I love this photo and the post, Malisa. I hope some of your dreams -- it's good to have them -- come true. Mine, too.

I love this, particularly your post. My great aunt, too, sent me money every year on my birthday for many years. By the time I finished reading, I could hear the voice of Morgan Freeman reading this aloud. Very nice.

I love the sound of the box opening and closing. There's mystery in there and some day it'll be mine.
