What Lurks Beneath The Water?

Today is Day Twelve of
Thirty Days of Photography II.

Today's photo topic: FEAR

Lurch and I live on a lake. It is beautiful.

For years, our refuge was on the water. We had a boat. We had jet skis. One of our favorite things to do was take the boat out at twilight and watch the warm glow of lights from homes shine over the water as the dark approached. Evening cocktails while drifting in the water was a ritual. On the weekends, we would load up a thermos of tequila sunrises and jug fish as we watched the sun come up over the lake. Ahhh. Peace and serenity and mind numbing tequila.

We have a small neighborhood. Everyone is friendly and waves and exchanges warm greetings. Like the couple who live by our neighborhood pool. He is our neighborhood pool man and likes to talk way too much when we visit the pool. His wife works at the grocery store and is a kind, gentle woman. Her voice sounds like she has been sucking on helium. We laugh a little at our strange neighbors.

Until he killed her.

It was a brutal murder we were all unaware of until she had been missing for two weeks.

Texas Rangers invaded the quiet neighborhood and discovered that the strange, little pool man had taken her lifeless body to his garage and cut her into pieces...

and dumped them into our lake.

They never found her head or two of her limbs.

We haven't been on the lake since.
