Sophie's Other Choice

Oh, I hate to be late
for an assignment!
I still get that "teacher pleasing"
nervous stomach when I have
been absent for a few days!
However, the writing prompt is good
for the entire week...
so better late than never!

It is a themed writing meme.
Each Saturday, Ms. Matlock will give
a writing prompt.
Your assignment...
if you choose to accept it...
is to write a 100 word story.
Yes, 100 words or less...
not including the "prompt words".
Oh, and the prompt words can
be used anywhere in your story!

Sounds like fun, doesn't it?
The writing prompt is good for the entire week,
so you can join in at any time!

THIS WEEK'S PROMPT:

"Are you sure that's the one you want?"

I felt a little lump in my throat as I peered down at my choice,
held tightly in my hand. I didn't think this would be so nerve-wracking.
Was I making the wrong decision?
I couldn't agonize over this any longer.

I took a deep breath before managing to say, "... Yes, it is."

So here is my contribution

_________________________________________________________

It was a mini Sophie's Choice.

As I stood in the regimented line, sweat began to trickle down my face. My cheeks were red hot and flushed with fear. In desperation, I fanned my damp face with the open palms of my hands.

I felt the stares of the others assembled in the line. Each person faced his own dilemma...his own choice. Decisions made in that long, tortuous line would change lives.

My hands trembled as I reached out to grasp my future.

The weight of my decision was too much to bear.

"Are you sure that's the one you want?"

I felt a little lump in my throat as I peered down at my choice, held tightly in my hand. I didn't think this would be so nerve-wracking. Was I making the wrong decision? I couldn't agonize over this any longer.

I took a deep breath before managing to say, "... Yes, it is."

Plain or peanut?

It was Sophie’s other choice.

Okay, let's hear the
collective groan.

Damn, I'm sure I'm not alone in the groans! I love the way you put words together. Not sure why, I just do!

Take care, Sue

Oh my goodness gracious. LOL. I got so into this and then....decisions, decisions, decisions. I would choose peanut in the end.

I can't groan because I'm laughing too hard! What a great take on the prompt. Wouldn't it be nice if that were the toughest decision we ever had to make? Although, it can be hard. I usually just go for both :) Kat

I have always wondered why they don't do a bag of mixed! Plain AND peanut!

LOL! That was awesome! I wish I could go back to the time where plain or peanut was an epic decision (it would be peanut, of course!) Great job on this week's Centus, Malisa! Definitely worth the wait!

That was very good

No groans. Just admiration for how you carefully place each word into a jewel of a story. You aren't late either Malisa! You are just absolutely, perfectly right on time!

Thank you for linking!

I love your writing.

Hey, you're good with these twisty endings. Another one I didn't see coming.
